The Joseph S. Murphy Scholarship for Diversity in Labor Program

In 2013, then-Chancellor of The City University of New York, Matthew Goldstein, announced the creation of a new challenge-grant scholarship for students entering the labor studies programs at the Murphy Institute at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. This multi-year commitment will provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in the Murphy Institute’s labor studies degree programs. The scholarship program and the Institute are named after a former Chancellor of the City University of New York, Joseph S. Murphy.

Award / Eligibility Details:

To be eligible for the Joseph S. Murphy Scholarship, admission to the CUNY School of Professional Studies is required prior to scholarship application. The scholarship awards two-year scholarships of up to $30,000 (graduate students) and up to $20,000 (undergraduate students), pro-rated on the basis of enrollment status. This scholarship is open to students applying to the MA in Labor Studies program or the BA in Urban and Community Studies program with a concentration in labor studies. To be eligible, undergraduate students must have earned 60 or more credits at a prior college with at least a 2.5 GPA, and graduate students must have earned at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in their prior undergraduate level work.
