    Huayu Enrichment Scholarships (HES)

    The Huayu Enrichment Scholarships support American students pursuing Huayu (Mandarin proficiency) courses in Taiwan, both to increase their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society and to promote mutual understanding between Taiwan and the international community.

    Award / Eligibility Details:

    Applicants must be United States citizens at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or higher, possess excellent academic record, and be of good moral character. In addition, those who apply with the Education Division in New York must also be residents of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania. The duration of the award can be any of the following: 2 (summer classes), 3, 6, or 9-month awards, and is a monthly stipend of NT$25,000.

    Candidates with one of the following qualifications are ineligible: overseas Chinese student or a National of the Republic of China (Taiwan); currently a registered student at any Mandarin Language Center or has been a degree-seeking student at any universities or colleges in Taiwan; a prior recipient of an HES or a Taiwan Scholarship; will be an exchange student to Taiwan during the scholarship award period; is currently receiving financial benefits from the Taiwan government and/or other Taiwan educational institutions.
