Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study
Return to Fellowship SearchBlakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded to individuals pursuing professional, business, technical or academic careers that involve the regular use of an East or Southeast Asian language. The grants fund an academic year of advanced language study. The grants cover tuition and a stipend for related educational expenses, basic living costs and transportation, but do not include dependent expenses. Grants will be awarded for the study of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Khmer or Burmese. Consideration will be given to other East or Southeast Asian languages on an individual basis. Applicants apply separately to approved language programs.
Award / Eligibility Details:
Applicants must be seniors in undergraduate colleges or possess a college undergraduate degree, be pursuing an academic, professional or business career that involves the regular use of a modern East or Southeast Asian language, be at or near an advanced level in the language, be able to devote oneself exclusively to language study during the term of the grant, and be a US citizen or permanent resident. GPA of 3.0 or higher recommended.
